September 2, 2011, ERIE, PA — Pennsylvania State Troopers are continuing their investigation into a fatal I-90 hit-and-run truck accident that occurred August 20, 2010 and are encouraging anyone with information about the Pennsylvania truck accident, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, to call them and share it.
The Pennsylvania Truck Accident
As documented in earlier blog entries here , Mr. Fengming Liu and his wife, Xiaoxia Zhang, were eastbound on Interstate 90 in North East Township, Pennsylvania. They were with their children in a family station wagon. A large blue truck or tractor trailer attempted to pass them on the left and struck the station wagon in the rear. The collision with the truck caused the station wagon to spin out of control.
Ms. Zhang was ejected from her vehicle and another large truck struck her as she lay on the highway. Reportedly, she was killed instantly in the Pennsylvania truck crash .
Both commercial truck drivers fled the scene of the Erie semi crash and have not yet been identified, despite vigorous investigation and rewards offered for information about the Erie County hit-and-run truck crash. A sketch (see above) has been provided of one of the truckers believed to have been involved in the Erie truck accident. The description is of a man in his 40s, with dark hair and eyes, who spoke with an accent, who stands about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds.
Investigators also have released information on the blue truck involved in the Pennsylvania truck wreck. It may have been a blue International 9000 series truck with mirrors mounted on the fenders. It is believed to have been damaged in the area of the right front fender and grill.
How to Help
Witnesses to the Pennsylvania semi-truck crash (or anyone else with information about the accident) can report information anonymously, if they wish, and are encouraged to contact authorities at www.eriealert.com (click on the “Crime Stoppers” button”) or (800) 472-8477 or (814) 898-1641. Reward money is available, including a reward offered by Mr. Liu of $20,000 and another reward offered of $2,000.
Help for People Injured by Hit and Run or “Phantom” Drivers
Pennsylvania hit-and-run accident victims should know that there is a possibility of recovery from their own Pennsylvania car insurance but that there may be special notice requirements of such coverage when “phantom vehicles” are involved. If these notice requirements are not met then the injured person can lose their right to recover. People injured in Erie County “phantom vehicle” or hit-and-run accidents should waste no time in consulting with an experienced Pennsylvania hit-and-run injury lawyer (particularly because most Erie injury lawyers charge nothing for an initial consult).
