According to the ETN, Lorei was headed east on Route 5. The Buick, driven by Donald J. McCammon, 60, of Erie, pulled into her path from Fair Avenue.
Neither Ms. Loreir nor Mr. McCammon were wearing helmets. Both were killed.
The article doesn’t report enough detail to form any hard and fast conclusions about how the accident happened but it certainly has the look of one of those accidents that occurred because the car’s driver didn’t see the motorcycle. Drivers have got to be more aware of and alert to the presence of motorcycles on our roads, especially in the summertime. Not only are motorcycles more difficult to see but the consequences of a collision with them are so often tragic. The deadly combination of vulnerability and low visibility demands that car drivers be extra alert and cautious.
