An Erie motorcycle accident near the Waldameer entrance this past Wednesday claimed the life of the motorcycle driver and his passenger is in critical condition at UPMC Hamot. Also injured was a passenger in the car involved in the Pennyslvania motorcycle collision.
Details of the Millcreek motorcycle accident remain unclear but police report that a Harley Davidson Softail was westbound on West Lake Road and a Chevrolet Lumina was eastbound when the two collided in the intersection with West Sixth Street, near Waldameer’s south entrance, near 10 p.m. on Wednesday. The motorcyclists were thrown from their vehicle while the Lumina continued on and struck another car stopped near the entrance.
The motorcycle driver was pronounced dead at UPMC Hamot where his female passenger is in critical condition.
Police have not said how the accident occurred although it seems likely that one of the vehicles was turning left and crossed into the other’s path. Eyewitness testimony will be helpful to investigators but more often it is the physical evidence at the scene, including debris location, skid marks and pavement gouges, that will establish definitively where the accident occurred and which vehicle crossed the center line.
