In fact, we’re doing our part to perpetuate Steeler fandom through the ages. Tim is raising his son, Nathan, a die-hard Steeler fan and my son, Sam, has been a Steeler fan for as long as either of us can remember. This year, he went to both playoff games outfitted head to e in Steeler gear. Literally. He wore a black and gold fright wig, about ten layers of Steeler jerseys, sweatshirts and coats, (including as the top layer his treasured Maurkice Pouncey jersey), Steeler bandana, Steeler pants and Steeler socks. In fact, he’s already got a similar costume laid out for today’s game, even though we’ll be watching in the comfort of our living room instead of freezing in the upper deck at Heinz Field.
Our daughters are Steeler fans, too. For the Super Bowl they’re dutifully outfitted in the black and gold. But they mostly do it to humor us. They don’t really understand how or why we can invest so much: emotionally, financially, wardrobily (admittedly coining my own word there) in the team that’s staked its reputation on the most hard-nosed and least flashy aspects of the game.
And so, on this Super Bowl Sunday, the eighth such Sunday for Steeler Nation, Purchase, George & Murphey, P.C. are firmly behind our glorious Pittsburgh Steelers. Go STEELERS!
