May 3, 2012, ERIE, PA — Erie injury attorney Tim George was featured in an Erie County high school newspaper for his presentation on the hazards of texting and driving in Pennsylvania.
The Hoofprint, a publication of Fort LeBoeuf High School, reported that Atty. George came to the school on April 19, 2012 and, together with State Trooper Robert J. Brown and WJET-24 reporter Elizabeth D’Aurora, presented the “No Text and Drive” program to promote safe driver awareness of the risks of distracted driving.
The newspaper stressed the importance of safety, particularly during the Prom and Spring events season. The paper reported that there are approximately 6,000 traffic deaths and 500,000 injuries caused by distracted drivers every year; that cell phones and texting can take a driver’s attention away from the road for five or more seconds; and that drivers under 20 were the age group with the highest percentage of distracted drivers.
