Mr. Burek, reportedly of Erie County, was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy Crawford County Coroner. The Crawford County car accident occurred near 4:30 a.m.
There are many things unknown about this accident, not least of which is why a large pool of water was present in the middle of the road. Occasionally such pools of water occur when roadside drainage ditches are clogged or obstructed by accumulated snow or debris. If the pool of water was a chronic problem and attributable to a road defect like improper grading then it may be that the state or Bloomfield Township may be liable for Mr. Burek’s death. Much will turn on what is learned about the circumstances of the accident, of course.
Our thoughts are with Mr. Burek’s family as they grieve his loss.
