Cheryl Mary Shannon, a former Army major and ROTC instructor at the University of Scranton, was injured on March 6, 2003 when struck by a van driven by Marcial A. Gonzalez. Ms. Shannon suffered injuries to her head and knees in the crash which limited her ability to work and to function as an army officer.
The jury awarded Ms. Shannon $300,000 for past and future pain and suffering; $282,000 for past and future impairment of earning capacity; and $524,000 in lost pension benefits.
