June 1, 2012, ERIE, PA — Law Day gets more attention around our office than it may around other offices. We are Pennsylvania injury lawyers, after all. So it was that we decided to bring the entire staff to the Erie County Bar Association’s Law Day activities this year. Imagine our surprise when two of our own ended up prominently featured in a promotional photo from the event! Above are Kim and Angelina getting books signed by the event’s keynote speakers: Ronald Cotton and Jennifer Thompson.
The event was a lot of fun and the speakers were outstanding. They are the authors of “Picking Cotton,” the real life story of Jennifer Thompson’s rape; her mistaken identification of Ronald Cotton as her attacker; his false conviction, sentence and ultimate vindication; and their joint story as the two became friends and activists. Theirs is a compelling story and one that deserves consideration by anyone with a serious interest in the justice we seek to find in courtrooms across our nation. As Erie lawyers who support our local bar association, we’ll continue to be sponsors of the Erie County Bar Association’s law day activities and, judging by the response we got from Kim and Angelina this year, it sure looks like the whole Purchase, George & Murphey, P.C. team will be attending next year, too.
