October 6, 2010, ERIE, PA — A North East man caused a three car crash while merging on to Interstate 90 yesterday, according to police. Zachary Duda, 19, was merging onto the eastbound lanes from Route 430 in Harborcreek Township when he lost control of his pickup truck and veered into the path a tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer, a 2011 International, apparently struck the passenger side of Mr. Duda’s Chevrolet 1500 and stopped or was disabled. A Honda sedan driven by Stephen C. Sowers, 18, struck the tractor trailer from behind. Mr. Sowers, of Erie, was injured and taken to Hamot Medical Center. Police described Mr. Sowers’ injuries as “moderate.”
Mr. Duda was cited with careless driving and with failure to drive at safe speeds in the Erie County car accident. It does not appear that Mr. Duda or the operator of the tractor trailer, who was not identified, were injured.
Our thoughts are with Mr. Sowers for a quick and complete recovery.
