July 24, 2012, ERIE, PA — As Erie injury lawyers who handle Pennsylvania car accident cases, we are frequently asked, “What do I do after a Pennsylvania car crash?” We’ve posted on that topic before and we even offer a cool little form to use as a guide (which you can get for yourself by asking us to send you our free book, “The Ultimate Guide to Car Accident Cases in Pennsylvania”). However, the days of carrying around a piece of paper may be behind us as there are plenty of new smart phone apps that you can put on your phone to help you in the event of a car accident.
Two smart phone apps that might prove helpful in the event of a Pennsylvania car accident were recently brought to my attention when I read favorable reviews about them in a prominent consumer rights publication. The two apps, one for DROID phones and the other for iPhones, are available for free and promise to help someone collect information and keep it organized, even in the critical moments right after an Erie fender bender.
The DROID app is called “Help I Crashed My Car.” The iPhone app is called “Car Accident Report.” Both smart phone apps allow users to pre-load important information like emergency contacts, personal data, vehicle information and insurance information. Both also do cool smart phone things like tracking your location after an automobile collision and both include checklists for information and things to do after an accident.
Even without the special apps, your smart phone can be a tremendous asset after an accident. It may be the best and fastest way to summon help. Less obviously, the phone can be used to get photos/video of the cars, their positions and damage at the scene (remember to do this safely!). If permitted by those involved, they can record audio or video interviews at the scene.
So, think about checking out the available smart phone apps for automobile crashes. The price is right! For even more information, read our article, “What to do Immediately After a Pennsylvania Car Accident” or order our free book, “The Ultimate Guide to Car Accident Cases in Pennsylvania.”
