The accident happened during the lunch hour when the bicyclist, whose name was not released, was traveling north on State Street. Police said the bicyclist entered the intersection of State and North Park Row against the light and was struck by the Ford, which was eastbound on North Park Row.
The bicyclist was taken to an unidentified hospital and no other information was available as to his condition.
We hope the bicyclist wasn’t badly injured. In our years of practicing as Erie bicycle accident lawyers, we’ve seen plenty of bicycle intersection accidents where the police report places blame on bicyclists without considering sight lines and the responsibility of the motorist. We don’t know anything about this particular accident, of course, but have seen enough others to know that, in the initial investigation of such a case, the initial focus is on traffic regulations which do not always capture the nuance of responsibility.
