September 29, 2012, ERIE, PA — As Erie bike accident lawyers, we’re constantly on the lookout for opportunities to spread awareness of Pennsylvania bike safety. A bicycle safety rally in Erie’s Perry square this week provided just that opportunity.
The rally, called the Ride of Silence, focused on reminding Pennsylvania motorists that they share the road with bicyclists. An all white bicycle (the “Ghost Bike”) was chained to a bike rack to honor all the bicyclists injured or killed in Pennsylvania car bicycle accidents.
The event was sponsored by BikeErie, a local Erie organization that exists to promote cycling and to advocate for the rights and equality of the cycling community.
The Erie bicycle safety rally drew supports from about 50 bicyclists, including five officers from the City of Erie’s police department’s bicycle patrol unit. Eric Brozell, an event organizer, said “The fact that the police are involved is such a wonderful thing…I have been getting more support from the city and the county to make Erie a more bicycle-friendly place.”
